Korean casino operator Grand Korea Leisure Inc. (GKL) reported a slight drop in sales in September. The company reported casino sales of about 42.42 billion won (US$37.5 million) last week, down 11.1 percent from the previous year.
On a month-over-month basis, casino sales fell 16.4% in September compared to August.
The year-on-year drop in casino sales came as table game sales fell 11.7 percent to 37.46 billion won in the month of September. The company said in a filing with the Korea Exchange that machine game sales fell 6.1 percent year-on-year to about 4.96 billion won.
GKL is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea. The casino operator, under the Seven Luck brand, runs three foreigner-only casinos in Korea, two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.
The company said casino sales rose 0.2% year-on-year to about 368.7 billion won in the first nine months of 2018.
Table game sales from January to September rose 2.6 percent from the previous year to about W325.9 billion. However, machine game sales fell 15.2 percent to about W42.79 billion in the nine months to Sept. 30.
